Andrey Lopatin (b. 2000, Russia) is an artist and researcher working with digital image-making to explore personal and large-scale catastrophes. After completing a BA in Cultural Studies at HSE Moscow in 2022, where he explored the cultural implications of graphic design, he worked as a graphic and web designer for fashion magazines, businesses, and cultural institutions, while also teaching. In 2024, he joined the MA in Photography at ECAL/University of Art and Design Lausanne, graduating in 2026. His projects often start with an autobiographical fact, which he connects with ethically and socially charged material sourced through public contributions or appropriated from online platforms. He reassembles and interprets these materials, primarily through AI-generative processes, to reflect on how shifting human and technological agency gives rise to new ethical tensions. While his work is mostly installation-based, he is currently focused on developing a series of short films.
